My 2007 New Years Resolutions

Monday, January 1st, 2007

I hate the idea that people make resolutions that they have no intention of keeping only when the earth’s odometre rolls over. It seems that it is enough to make people believe that they have a new lease on life. Personally, I believe the route of change should happen throughout the new year, especially when one realizes it is needed the most. However, I have reviewed what I want out of life and this is what I have come up with:

  1. Gain a bit more notoriety on the web/in my new home - I would like to be as big as Bryan Veloso, Mr. Fab or Shaun Inman. My weblog has been getting a bit more activity since I have been writing more often and using traffic services like BlogMad, but that is not enough. I need to do more to get my name out there. I would also like to be recognized in Calgary for my blog so I am also going to write replying to more local news.
  2. Finish up Blackthorne - Blackthorne (for the uninitiated) is a themeset that I have been working on for the past month. I am confident that I can get it done and coded before February 14th, especially since I cannot afford the bus pass for this month so my mobility is going to be dramatically hindered. Doesn’t mean that I can’t go to crowfoot and cash in my bottles to buy bus fare to get to the college to return some books. I should probably do that on Wednesday though, it will save time and money in the long run.
  3. Get into a serious relationship - I would like to get into a serious relationship. Need I say more?
  4. Fully convert to Buddhism - I would like to convert to Buddhism and seek a path of reason and truth. Right now, I could still be considered a Christian that just doesn’t go to church. I would like to be so much more than that and I would love to convert to Buddhism so I can clean my mind of my past practises and strive toward a brighter future.
  5. Get my work permit - Nicholi, if you are reading this, please submit your company to Alberta Registries. Now.

Those are my five new years resolutions. This is what is truly important to me right now and I would personally like to thank you for reading through my sappy drivel but hey, it was enough to spice up my life.

Software I purchased this year/

Friday, December 29th, 2006

This is a list of all the software I purchased this year, whether it was for my MacBook Pro or for my Windows PC that I used to own.

Applications that I Purchased

  • Acquisition - A file sharing app for the Macintosh platform.
  • Adobe Creative Suite 2 - A set of cool Adobe applications. I usually only use Photoshop though.
  • Apple Aperture - A cool photo editing and arranging app.
  • Chroma - A media player that I bought. I shouldn’t have though, it wasn’t all that great.
  • CSSEdit - A cool little CSS editing app.
  • Delicious Library - A cool app that will allow you to scan in your books, DVDs and other media so you can index them and keep track of them. Uses your iSight to read the barcodes and pulls data from Amazon.ca.
  • FlickrExport for iPhoto - It’s a pretty cool app that allows me to upload my photos to Flickr from my digital camera after they are imported into iPhoto.
  • Keepsake - Come to think of it, I am not entirely sure what this game is about.
  • Microsoft Office for Mac - We should all know what this is.
  • Neverwinter Nights for Mac - Yes, this includes the two expansion packs as well. I had to get those so I could play NWN to it’s fullest.
  • Neverwinter Nights 2 Chaotic Evil Edition - I hear it’s a pretty cool game. I hope I get to play it once Game.co.uk delivers my copy.
  • Parallels - For those times when I need a test Linux environment
  • Postal 2 - The ultra-violent offencive game from Running With Scissors.
  • Spymac Club - A series of applications for people to connect to the SpyMac community.
  • TextMate - A great text editor for the Mac.
  • Transmit - A very nice FTP app.

Live debugging in action

Sunday, December 24th, 2006

Well hell’s bells, if it’s working for Bryan Veloso, it can work for me. I NEED to get Blackthorne out. Blackthorne (for the uninitiated) is the next iteration of my theme. In fact, you are probably going to be seeing a completely different style for this site tonight (keep in mind that I am referring to MY time so sorry for those in the other hemisphere/coast). I am going to work hard to bring the night to Blackthorne so I hope you enjoy seeing it evolve before your eyes. And like Bryan Veloso’s next iteration of the Aries Project - I will be using Sandbox to start out my project. I am also working toward integrating all my previous plugins into this installation of WordPress. I am also going to be using CSSEdit to style this site further and further.

It is an adventure in bringing fruitation to Blackthorne. I am going to be what we will be known as live debugging. Over the next few weeks, I will be working on Blackthorne until it is complete. I am also going to be putting everything together with TextMate, Transmit and Photoshop CS3 Beta too. I hope that you will enjoy this little adventure in my site’s life as well.

My opinion on the new flavour of Adobe

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

To tell you the truth, I am not really sure whether or not I oppose Adobe’s new icon scheme. I love the new Adobe icons and yet, I hate them at the same time. Here’s my opinion:

The pros: They look GREAT on the Dock. I personally love how they are boxed and the fact that the only two Adobe products I really use are Photoshop and Acrobat, a lot of the other icons don’t really matter to me. (The most famous person that shares my love for Adobe’s new icon set is Veerle Pieters)

The cons: They lack the imagination of the previous Adobe icons and stuff that I loved. (The most famous person that shares my disdain for Adobe’s new icon set is Jason Santa Maria)

Personally, I will probably remain undecided until I can’t make cool things like Blackthorne or this wallpaper from Avalonstar.

Poser 7 Prerelease: Inspired by Casino Royale much?

Monday, December 11th, 2006

When you go to the website for Poser 6, you get greeted by a banner promoting the prerelease of Poser 7. It appears that the Poser 7 pre-order will be including a buch of goodies. In fact, according to the page, this is what you should expect:

For a limited time, when you preorder Poser 7, you will receive Poser 7 Special Edition, which will include Poser 7 plus:

  • Additional exclusive content that will not be available in the shipping version. Designed around a “secret agent” theme, the High Stakes Content Pack features high fashion formal outfits for the new male and female figures shipping in Poser 7, a complete casino scene with props, a sports car, and additional props that no secret agent should be without ($79.99 USD Value).
  • Exclusive, black collector packaging with cover art that features Sydney, the new Poser female figure.
  • A FREE six month Passport membership to Content Paradise, e frontier’s content marketplace ($49.99 USD Value).
  • A FREE $10 coupon good for any e frontier content on Content Paradise.

Poser 7 Special Edition will only be available during the preorder period leading up to the Poser 7 ship date. When Poser 7 ships, the limited offer for Poser 7 Special Edition will expire, and the High Stakes Content Pack valued at $79.99 USD will no longer be offered.

Humm, additional props that “no secret agent should be without”? Yep, this is a dead ringer for the new James Bond movie Casino Royale. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like I don’t appreciate this (in fact, my preorder should be coming soon ^_~). It’s just that I would have liked to known several days beforehand. I guess my art teacher is to blame for that, she usually keeps me in the loop about such things. I won’t yell, though. Much.
