Why be US-Centric?

Monday, February 26th, 2007

I tried to register for outside.in but guess what? They don’t support Canada nor Canadian towns yet! Fucking faggots. But it got me to thinking, why is it that there are so many US-Centric companies out there? I am talking about the companies that severely limit membership or hinder registration due to the lack of internationalization in their programmes. (more…)

Bitching about other people’s weblogs: An overview

Sunday, February 4th, 2007

Over the next couple of weeks, I am going to explain my biggest rants about other people’s weblogs. I am going to bitch about everything that bothers me in the world of blogging from usability to design. From archiving to the software. And yes, I am even going to throw in rants about hosting, software and other stuff that just makes my skin crawl. And yes, I am very likely going to step on a few toes here and there, but this article wasn’t written to make friends. It is written to help improve the blogosphere. And yes, I will include screenshots of some examples.

I want Furniture!

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

Okay, I want furniture for my room. I have a place to put my clothes and a select amount of books but I have no desk, no shelves and very little window space. I am working to clean up my living space and unfortunately, it is hard when the only means of storage you have are the two boxes you have lying around your room from when you moved from your crappier place. I searched Craigslist and found some free bookcases that I might be able to have so I can sort my anime and manga collection. But I still would like other pieces of furniture and not only that, but I think it would make Shush pretty happy to have everything cleared for the inspector form the city. (more…)

I MISS hot showers

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

When I moved here, I thought I would be able to take a little longer hot showers. I used to be able to take a lot of long hot showers, well, until my father started being an ass wipe and cut off the water halfway into the shower. But hot showers are one of the very few luxuries I used to enjoy back in the states. However, at the Rehn’s basement sweet and at Shush’s basement suite, hot water isn’t exactly that plentiful. This is even more so at Shush’s place but the justification for that is simply that I share my basement suite and a water heater with 4 others, not including myself. We all also share a bathroom so this creates a large amount of conflict.

So, yes. That’s one of the things I miss here in Calgary.

I hate friends of friends

Monday, January 15th, 2007

So I visited Meghan and Matt Saturday. Basically, I wanted to see them considering that I don’t have a bus pass to see them often. They are both my friends and I honour their opinions and I appreciate my time spent with them. Getting THAT out of the way, I am going to state what happend on Saturday. Plus, they offered to chip in for my return bus fare. This was good because my funds were taking forever to drop into my bank account. So, since I had to drop off an invoice from a small startup that I am working with (not saying the name, it is confidential), I thought it would be great to roll on over to see Meghan and Matt. Unfortunately, I was wrong because there was another person that stopped by. A woman so evil that hell itself spat her back out. I am referring to Meghan and Matt’s friend Kim.

Let me explain my first encounter with Kim. I first met her at the Mustard Seed Fall Ministry Experience while we were packaging food bundles for the homeless. She was a complete bitch to me and I found every moment I spent with that woman to be like drinking sulfuric acid. Not only that, but there was another person there so there is someone to substantiate my claims. And to top it off, her hostility toward me was completely unwarranted. I didn’t post that after the Fall Ministry Experience due to the fact that it was a minor point in the fall ministry experience. (more…)

How to answer Private Messages

Friday, January 12th, 2007

I seem to get a lot of private messages on the Invisionize or the vB.org forums and I have decided to take some time out of my very busy day to respond to the most common ones that I get so I can point to this blog post for an answer to them rather than just answer them individually. That just wastes time and not only that, but this solution brings a lot more traffic to my weblog thus making it more suited for awards and shit. So, I am going to start with 2 private messages and next week, I will answer 5 more. I think I might make this a weekly event too. (more…)

My rants and concerns about the iPhone

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

Okay, if you have travelled around the blogosphere yesterday, you could have seen a number of posts about the iPhone that is about to come out from Apple. Various rants include the iPhone has no keypad, it has a touchscreen, . And others express their unwavering desire to own one. And those at the Keynote dwell on the fact that the iPhone stole the show. I sympathize with the developers of the ModBook though, after all, we just recieved the ultimate cellphone. And if the developers of the ModBook can’t honestly say that they would wait hours in line to make sure they had the first one in their area, we know they are lying. We have Blackberry addicts joining the fray and Apple’s stock climbing.

Let’s face the facts. Apple is changing the game and we all just hit the jackpot. Or so you’d think. You see, we ALL haven’t won nor will we all win equally. You see, the iPhone is coming out, in the United States, in June 2007. And for those of us wanting to flee the states, have already fled the states or are currently in limbo based on visa options - we have to wait until Q4 2007 for an European iPhone and until 2008 for an iPhone in Asia. And where does Canada lie in all this? Certainly, Canada is NOT the United States but then again, is Canada European or (dare I say it) Asian? Or is there no ETA for the iPhone in Canada? It would make sense after all, most carriers here in Canada (Telus, Rogers, Fido, Bell, etc) are proprietary and do not respect the customer where they can purchase their phone and switch carriers freely. FOAD Thursday: Online Dating Whores

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

This Thursday’s Fuck off and Die Thursday is about those women that abuse the online dating system and basically lure men into contacting them only to fool them. I usually refer to this type of woman here as an Emotional Mercenary or simply as a Mercenary but when they abuse an online dating system, I refer to them as Online Dating Whores. These women are a consummate evil to the Internet, providing false hope to the desperate. I just recently got targeted by one (as you can read by my previous posts) and I have been targeted by several throughout the course of my stay here in Calgary.

I refuse to believe that all women are like this and I truly believe that there is someone out there for me and when I find her, she will treat me with the respect and dignity I deserve as a human being. I am just starting to believe more and more that I am NOT going to be able to find her in this city/province. Why can’t I just fund a woman that is looking for a mutually loving and respectful agape relationship? I am not interested in a solely Eros relationship and while a philia relationship is nice, I don’t want that at this time of my life.

The Nighttime Sleeping, Coughing, Aching, Stop Drinking my fucking Apple Juice Medicine

Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

I went this morning to finally crack open that apple juice that I have been wanting to drink and guess what? Someone already did it for me. Plus, they had the nerve to down about half of it. Bastard! I believe this is why my Pizza Pops started coming up missing and the box appears in the trash. Plus, my chocolate milk starts getting drunk in about half the time it would take me. WTF?

In other news, I got my copy of Neverwinter Nights 2: Chaotic Evil edition in the mail today from GAME in the UK. I just need to get myself a Mighty Mouse and I am all set to play that sucker! I crack the box open and to my surprise, it’s not all that exciting. I could have sworn that I thought I would get a lot more stuff than what actually came in it. Here is what I did get, just so you know: (more…)

There are anti-smoking laws for a reason!

Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

Today’s rant is about anti-smoking laws. Personally, I am an advocate for these type of laws. I do not believe smoking should be allowed in public places, considering that it is dangerous to people’s lungs and it is especially dangerous around little children. I know, I grew up around one of my mom’s friends that smoked. That was completely inconsiderate, considering that I did not like it and it made me feel like I was choking. She usually did this in her Chevy Suburban and I was sitting in the back seat, next to this woman’s daughter (probably). I was not too happy about the smoking but her children seemed to be used to it.

On Sunday night, I was riding the number 76 back from Crowfoot Centre and when the driver stopped in Hawkwood, he lit up a cigarette. Now, the City of Calgary has anti-smoking bylaws for public places and smoking surely isn’t allowed on a Calgary Transit bus. I tried to get a picture of him via his rear view mirror but both pics came out way too dark so they would be of no use to Calgary Transit staff. However, while the bus was pulling away, I did get a picture of the licence plate. You can bet that I sent that via e-mail to Calgary Transit staff.

Basically, there are anti-smoking laws in place for a reason and I just wished that everyone took them seriously, considering that they are here to protect the citizens of Calgary or the city they serve. Please be respectful of the laws and the people around you and refrain from lighting up. Thank you. (more…)
