Today’s rant is about anti-smoking laws. Personally, I am an advocate for these type of laws. I do not believe smoking should be allowed in public places, considering that it is dangerous to people’s lungs and it is especially dangerous around little children. I know, I grew up around one of my mom’s friends that smoked. That was completely inconsiderate, considering that I did not like it and it made me feel like I was choking. She usually did this in her Chevy Suburban and I was sitting in the back seat, next to this woman’s daughter (probably). I was not too happy about the smoking but her children seemed to be used to it.
On Sunday night, I was riding the number 76 back from Crowfoot Centre and when the driver stopped in Hawkwood, he lit up a cigarette. Now, the City of Calgary has anti-smoking bylaws for public places and smoking surely isn’t allowed on a Calgary Transit bus. I tried to get a picture of him via his rear view mirror but both pics came out way too dark so they would be of no use to Calgary Transit staff. However, while the bus was pulling away, I did get a picture of the licence plate. You can bet that I sent that via e-mail to Calgary Transit staff.
Basically, there are anti-smoking laws in place for a reason and I just wished that everyone took them seriously, considering that they are here to protect the citizens of Calgary or the city they serve. Please be respectful of the laws and the people around you and refrain from lighting up. Thank you. (more…)
