RIP Saddam Hussein

Sunday, December 31st, 2006

Okay, as of this week, Saddam Hussein was executed in Iraq by the gallows. I am not too happy about this, considering that it was televised and it was a murder. Not only did they violate Saddam Hussein’s rights as a human being but he should have been executed in private so that he could at least go with a bit of dignity. People on death row in the United States are usually alone or with those that they select to be in the viewing room when they are to be executed. Two wrongs do not make a right and murdering Saddam Hussein was not right, because all it does is increase the blood on our hands.

It is never right to take another human life. No matter how bad they were, it is not right to take away their life. And for people to be cheering at the death of another human being is just disgusting and wrong. Would you want people cheering at your funeral? If you were being executed with the death penalty, would you want all those who hated you, your exes and everyone that stand against you cheering on the executioners in the waiting room? How can people possibly cheer at this?

Making the rent is hard to do

Friday, December 29th, 2006

I have to find a way to make $450 quickly so I can afford the rent this month. It is getting to be so costly. In fact, I am kind of afraid to ask Shush for a small extension on my rent so I can make the date. I am so tired of this shit. I guess the only way I am going to catch up is by becoming an agent for something like the Sunflower Network. Also, Nicholi is still having trouble registering the non-profit with registries so I can’t apply for my work permit yet. Plus, I don’t have the $150 fee for the work permit. I mean, I don’t see why people wouldn’t want to loan me the money for that. As soon as I get it and Nicholi gets the non-profit registered, I will be able to pay back the loan. After all, I would have a job. I need to get $75 together also to renew my bus pass for next month. Otherwise, I will probably be stuck in this house. Plus, I need the money for the pass before the 10th of next month.

I have this copy of Microsoft Windows that I have not installed on my computer but is opened. Tomorrow, I am going to try to return it at London Drugs tomorrow. I am tired of just skating by each month and plus, I have very little money to eat on so I am screwed on that end. What a shame too, considering I have been craving Taco Bell for the longest time. Plus, I want to get some of those Moo.com cards and I would like to get my phone line moved over here. I am also having my copy of Poser 7 returned so I can have $250 USD transferred into Canada. Plus, I am begging the owner of the Sunflower Network to allow me to work on that project as soon as possible. I will probably offer to redesign their website for them for free.

Roommates never get any better, they only get worse.

Friday, November 24th, 2006

Dusten may have been annoying as hell, but at least he isn’t as bad as Doug is. Just so you know, Doug is the person doing the construction work in the house and he may very well be living here once the construction is complete. Basically, he has a VERY short fuse. And unfortunately, it does not appear that Shush (my landlord) will be getting rid of him any time soon. This is a bummer because he is a real douche bag.

However, my other two roommates are really great. Huda barely says a word and keeps to himself, but what little I see of him - he is friendly. And Rob is a very nice and understanding guy. He even took my HP Pavilion laptop off my hands. How about that, talk about nice. The only problem I see is Doug and I am hoping and praying that he really does get evicted. (more…)

Probably going to get dooced at school

Tuesday, November 21st, 2006

Talking with Mr. Pringle today got me thinking about how well the school takes freedom of speech. The college is actually very hypocritical and I know at least one person that sees this as well. My blog is a mind dump, more or less. You can write about the things that are going on in your life and it helps you feel much better. When comments come, it makes you feel that you are not alone in the struggle that is life. It is a slice of my life that not everyone sees and they get to view the world that I live in a little differently.

I don’t blog about anything, or share opinions, that I wouldn’t feel happy talking about up on a stage in front of friends and strangers. This is why I am not anonymous nor do I wish to be. My name IS Kyle Korleski (no, that is not a pen name) and I live in Calgary, Alberta for the time being (if I were to move, it’d definitely be to Halifax or Vancouver). I have a loud, outspoken attitude that some people find to be very acidic. I’d love to be stopped and told how much my blog rocks/sucks. I love writing this blog because it gives me a chance and a forum in which to vent my anger, disgust and discontentment with the world, while at the same time celebrating the wonderful things that happen in my life. It is very nice to actually get comments on this blog, and no, the viagra spam comments do not count in this. (more…)

NaNoWriMo Contest

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

Yes that’s right - starting the 1st of November, I will be working toward writing a 50,000 word novel in a contest. Like all my other writings, I am going to make it available through the Creative Commons once it is completed. But until that day comes and the contest is over, take one line of my story and I will get all up in your grille.

What am I going to write? I don’t know yet but I have a few ideas swirling in my head. I am certain that I can write a novel within the expanse of a month. Hell, if O.J. Simpson can be proven innocent for murder, I can write a novel. I have been meaning to do so for a few years now and here is my chance. (more…)

About Net Neutrality

Monday, September 18th, 2006

Edit: I edited the words to convey my true opinion

Why is this bad? Well, the Internet is a very social network and it was built to be decentralised and an open standard. However, this bill will make it more impossible to run a website with the truth. How so, you ask? Well, here are the reasons MY blog and site would be effected if Net Neutrality were to fail in the states.

  1. I tell about my bad experiences of Charter Cable, AOL, Microsoft and all those mother fuckers so once Net Neutrality fails, they will have the power to block my content or make it slower.
  2. Advertisements and advertising partners will make less payouts to webmasters and give the ISPs and Telcos more money to prioritise their advertisements. Content is king and it is the reason why the Internet is so successful. Would someone watch 30 minutes of television to see 29 minutes of advertisements as opposed to just 6 minutes of advertisements? Of course not! We would get out a bit more and enjoy life and do other things. And eventually, since we wouldn’t be able to see the benefit of having a “high-speed” internet connection, we’d cancel it in a heartbeat.
  3. Do you really think we’d be able to use Instant Messengers from other ISPs? Like if I were using Yahoo!’s DSL programme in the states, do you think that I would be able to gain the same level of connectivity with MSN Messenger, ICQ and AOL IM that I would gain with Yahoo!? Of course not, because Yahoo! would love to try to drive people to help improve it’s market share.
  4. Great sites like The Pirate Bay and Boxtorrents would drastically be reduced in popularity as we would probably have an even lower level connection to bittorrent.
  5. Firefox is gaining considerable steam and market power. Now, if Net Neutrality fails, it may be that the only browser you will be able to use (if you use MSN or an ISP that works with MSN) is Internet Explorer. That sucks, doesn’t it?

So I approve of Net Neutrality.

Why Canada should resist integration with the US

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

Canada is a great nation with a powerful economy and it is one of the finest nations to live in. The United States, on the other hand, is currently making attempts to rob it’s people of their freedoms and liberties. Canada is a very peaceful nation and it provides it’s citizens with help where some people need it the most. Things like health insurance and the vital stuff that could break a normally uninsured person are protected by Canadian law. In the US, to be uninsured is a very dangerous thing. (more…)

The Trouble with Conservatives

Monday, July 10th, 2006

Conservatives fail to live the principles of freedom they expound. The problem is not that they set high standards and then fail to meet them, but that they knowingly and deliberately violate them. — The conservative Jacob Hornberger describes the hypocrisy of conservative think tanks such as the Heritage Foundation.

Not focused on bin Laden

Tuesday, July 4th, 2006

Remember once upon a time, George W. Bush promised to bring Osama bin Laden to justice “dead or alive?

I know, it was a long time ago. As far back as September 2001. And
it’s not like Bush continued to have that zeal for justice for the
victims of 9/11. Just a few months after Bush made that pledge he said this in regards to a question about bin Laden:

So I don’t know where he is. You know, I just don’t spend that much time on him, Kelly, to be honest with you.

Bringing justice to the families of those who died on September 11,
2001 by capturing bin Laden has fallen so far down the line of
priorities that the Central Intelligence Agency closed Alec Station
late last year. The closure of this unit was confirmed on Monday. (more…)

Right of Permanent Residence Fee cut in half

Wednesday, May 3rd, 2006

WARNING! THIS IS IMPORTANT NEWS AND SHOULD NOT BE MISSED. PLEASE MAKE SURE EVERYONE YOU KNOW, KNOWS ABOUT THIS DEVELOPMENT.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resid-fee/index.html

As we thought when Stephen Harper got into Office, the Right of Permanent Residence Fee was cut in half. This means that the Right of Permanent Residence Fee is now only $490 CAD and is a lot more affordable. This could be good and it could be bad.

The Good News

  • A lower permanent residence fee.

The Bad News

  • Citizenship and Immigration Canada wait times might increase.
  • If you became/become a Permanent Resident before May 3rd 2006, you don’t get a refund.

If you are looking to get into Canada, NOW’S THE TIME. DO IT BEFORE STEPHEN HARPER GETS OUT OF OFFICE AND THE WAIT TIMES INCREASE!
