Sorry about not blogging so often!

Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006

Sorry about not blogging recently. I have to collect $2,000 by the 19th of June or I won’t be able to stay in the country. -_-

So, right now, I am doing as much designing, coding and forum management as possible to raise the money in a reasonable timeframe.

Anyways, I heard from a reliable source that the beta for Microsoft Office 2007 is now open (you can get it here) and Windows Longhorn Beta 2 is making its way to the public, so you should keep your eyes on these.

The new ICQ 5.1 has launched today and I’ll give you my opinion on it, after I try it out of course, as well as the new 2007 Microsoft Office. However, I am afraid that this version of ICQ will be no different from the most recent versions of ICQ (the ones with “Xtraz”). Essentially, with skinning of the ICQ Client gone (as ICQ Plus has been outsourced and only ICQ 2003a will run well with it), the ICQ client isn’t as customisable as we think it is.

I got around to watching a couple of those Ranma 1/2 tapes that I am selling on eBay (the listing can be found here) and it is surprisingly good. However, since they were VHS, they were dubbed and not subbed. And they were dubbed POORLY. The voices sound like they have no emotion what-so-ever. I’d bet the subbed would be a bit more lively, but then again, I have always preferred subbed over dubbed. But if you prefer dubbed over subbed, this is a great collection.

I looked on Amazon.ca for Ranma DVD box-sets but they were running at $110.00 a boxset on average (You can see the Amazon.ca listings here). WTF?! I wish I could afford this…

Okay, I think that’s about it. Have a great day!

Raising $250.00+ in One Week

Sunday, April 23rd, 2006

Basically, here is the skinny on this. I had a bad client try to infect my computer and raise some seditious remarks  against me and my services on vB.org. Now, in addition to paying off the bank (still owe them like $200.00), I have to refund this fag. This is a complete waste of my time and I shouldn’t have to be doing… *evil grin* Just got a good idea!

The Meet

Thursday, April 20th, 2006

I am certainly not living right…

My life is weird, and will stay weird until the day I die–and I’m willing to bet that there’ll be some strange circumstances around my death, too. I don’t know, maybe it’ll be linked to organized crime, or people will never find my body, starting rumors that I’m secretly buried under third base at Pac Bell SBC AT&T Pac Bell Park, or in the foundation of some new UC Berkeley facility. Maybe I’ll die under the massive pile of anime crap I’ve been accumulating since I was fourteen.

But anyway, it won’t come close to the surreality of my family relations these days.

See, my family has always known me as the loud, nerdy one in the family. Their recent discovery of the side of me known as “Kyle of Alberta” is a shock to them. In a recent trip to Texas, I overheard a conversation where they discussed stories they’d heard about me outside of the family circle, like how my cousin said that when I was at my job interview, I was a completely different person than she was used to.

Or, to put it in another cousin’s words, “There’s the Kyle we know, and then there’s Kyle of Alberta who signs tits.”

Now, before I go any further, I’d like to clarify one thing. I don’t sign tits. I signed one, ever, and it ain’t happenin’ again. So that statement really should be “and then there’s Kyle of Alberta, who signed a tit once and found the experience rather distasteful.”

But anyway, the point remains–I’ve kept the Canadian side of my life and the family side of my life almost entirely separate (largely due to the fact that one of the majour reasons is they won’t find me here), with the biggest anomaly being one dark, dark incident at Anime Expo which involved a cousin, his friend’s copy of “Strengthening Today, Securing Tommorrow” (The Coldwood’s financial plans - announcing the creation of TheAnime.Net), and a complete lack of eye contact.

Now they know, and not only do they know, my cousin’s wedding on Saturday (note that I’ve referenced four entirely different cousins in this rant–I have 5 that I know of, so if there is any cousin overlap, I’ll tell you) was marked with a conversation with a fifth cousin about the recent eBay auctions, in which Trey’s new appliance went for a sizable amount. That produced the following conversation:

“Dude, sell out. *pause, grab an in-law* Hey, Burns, tell Kyle what to do. If people are willing to spend that much money on computer boxes, how about you give them an original? It’s not ripping them off if they’re willing to pay that much for it!”

“My advice to you is: sell out. Trust me, work doesn’t get any more fun as you get older.”

There was a lot of swearing in that conversation that I’ve omitted, but there was a lot of alcohol involved that I’ve omitted too, so I guess it’s fairly even.

Sending my computer in to HP

Tuesday, April 18th, 2006

Okay, so here is the skinny. I am going to have to send my computer in to Hewlett Packard, but the only problem is I can’t seem to find my CD for Photoshop CS. This will make it a nightmare because I need to have Photoshop CS to upgrade to Photoshop CS2. Maybe I should consider the possibility of just removing the hard drive of this computer and deactiving CS2. This way, HP won’t wipe the drive.

Also, I am going to get out of the professional web design business due to the fact that I can relatively NEVER finish everything. I am not going to abandon web design and my current clients. All clients that I have promised work to will get it. However, there will be no new clients unless I specifically look for work. If I like your site and you are a good client, I’ll keep doing business for you.

Generally though, I have to focus on raising the money for the CIC (approximately $1525 Canadian) and getting my newest project off the ground. What is it? I am not telling ;-) but if you keep an eye on The Coldwood, you might see it come into being.

I also located Adam’s new telephone number and I talked to his wife. Appearantly Adam said that he owed me less than $100 (he actually owes me $150) and also he is… someplace that I really couldn’t decipher due to the fact that Adam’s wife stated that she had children around. While I am not one to gossip, I have a few guesses: jail, rehab, psych ward or a brothel. Either way, I really need to get that money.

Oh, and I am pretty sure that you fail it.

Today’s Day

Monday, April 10th, 2006

This morning, I finally cleaned out the clutter in my apartment and now things are looking a bit more organized. I basically just had to leave the UPS package out on the front porch for that damned whiny kid on eBay and run to do my errands.

Okay, let me tell you, it kinda reaffirms your faith in the human race when someone stops and offers to take you the rest of the way to WalMart. Since the store was a couple of miles away, I hopped into that Escalade and was at WalMart in mere minutes. Basically, I just needed to get my paycheque cashed, get my cellular bill paid, get the rest of my cash converted into Canadian and then head back home. (more…)

Day of unemployment

Sunday, April 2nd, 2006

Before you get started, yes I am looking for a job. This is one of THOSE times when sending a little bit of cash via PayPal helps boost morale.

Unemployment IS a problem for me. A big problem. I’ve got 2 creditors that want my blood and I have only $2 CAD to my name. If you want me to do a vBulletin design for you, I’ll do it for $100-$400 depending on how complex you want it.

P.S. The new design for the site is coming along nicely. I also added new categories to the WordPress and all that good stuff. I hope to get the latest version of my site out in about a couple of weeks.

Those bastards at Valero…

Tuesday, March 21st, 2006

That bastard, Tom Scheliga, fired me for “stealing food” from Valero. That is a completely bogus lie, but what can you do? Valero is a corporation with over $30 billion USD and a team of bad-ass lawyers. I am a person with -$600 net worth and a friend in law school. In america, it’s not about whether you are right or not, it’s about how many lawyers and how good they are.

I have an appointment with Mr. Sunni from Spinzer’s tommorrow.

Just got my plane tickets ^^

Monday, March 20th, 2006

Well, according to Air Canada, I should land in Canada on April 30th. How lucky for me! Sadly, however, no meal. Nah, I wouldn’t worry though. I could just pick up something at the airport. I might have to convert all my money to Canadian Dollars, just for good measure.

Also, I just applied for my passport today. It was a nightmare. I had to wait in a long line at the Post Office and had to move to a completely line. On top of that, they confiscated my Birth Certifercate and said they wouldn’t give it back until I got my passport. What’s up with that? They SAY it will take 6 weeks. 6 weeks from today should be about May 1st (am I right?) I am getting new baggage for the trip. A laptop bag and a carryon back to hold the clothes I want to/can wear in Canada. The rest of my stuff can be shipped via UPS before I leave. (more…)

A quick rant before I head out the door

Saturday, March 18th, 2006

Humm… What to Rant about… Good question…

I am about to go to work at the Corner Store and work until 2PM (5 hours of work), so I have decided to make this a quick rant.

6 minutes left to rant… lets see - Have you seen the splash page at kyletech.us? It’s really something alright! ;-) I plan to make a layout for the blog like that. (more…)

The date moved up!

Saturday, March 11th, 2006

Wow, I haven’t blogged in a while… And I have so much to say!

I am coming to Canada appearantly sooner than I thought (woo hoo!) The date has been moved from the end of May to (drumroll please) the end of April :-)

Today at work (well, technically, yesterday), we had a staff meeting at Tom’s office. We were talking about the shit around the store, pretending to listen but truly, I didn’t care. I got to get paid for sitting 2 hours in a chair listing to my fellow co-workers and my boss whine about the store. (more…)
