Nick, I want to thank you for your support. The relationship has since ended but I've gained a lot from it and I'm happy I have had this experience. This just means I'll be more accepting when I learn that someone I know is engaged to a 16 year old. Love is a beautiful thing and people shouldn't be stopped because of age, race or gender. If you truly love someone, try to see it through, regardless of what others think.

Regarding Polish citizenship, I am now in the waiting process after all the paperwork is done. One thing that helped alot was creating a family tree. Althought it was not required, Everyone in the Polish office agreed it was valuable. I created it in excel and put all dates of signficant events.

Regarding and offcial translator in Poland the rate is about 35 pln. I think that is about 10 CAD per page. This is the rate they are told by the government to charge. The key thing is it has to have an offical stamp on it from the translator. Normal things like the story of your life or CV need not be offical but your birth certificate etc of course needs to be offical.

Polish paper work is not that hard, its normal, Think about if you wanted to apply for Canadian or USA citizen. It would take forever and would have to be in English.

ps I put a link to my polish grammar site if you think its time to learn Polish. :) Its free. http://www.polishgrammar.com

I've never taken the train, but I would like to. I usually just take the Greyhound. It's a lot cheaper, and in my case, a few hours faster.

I usually go from Detroit to NYC, granted that usually scares everyone considering the two cities reputations, but it all isn't too bad. Amtrak, according to their website takes about 18 hours to and from Detroit to NYC. The bus takes 13 to 16, depending on when you go.

The big storm in Minneapolis in Chicago this past winter grounded a lot of planes in Detroit and beyond, so everyone had to take The Greyhound since it was the only mode of transit able to function in that kind of weather. It's reliable in that affect. Even when it rains, planes end up being cancelled, etc.

I like to save money, so I take the bus. The planes are just too expensive, and after 9/11 I'm not sure if I'd like to fly on one.

Amtrak, maybe one day, when it's a bit cheaper. :)

Alibris is a scam. It works by getting a little bit of money from thousands of people all around the world. It all adds up and you start accruing interest on it. Then once somebody complains several times, you refund the money back. Some people will forget about it and not complain. That becomes profit.

They do have to have a semblance of a legitimate business. That's why they stock a certain number of books. They won't have most of the books you're looking for.

Kyle,

So I'm pretty much addicted to this blog - I'm always waiting for the next turn of events to unfold.

Anyways, I have a suggestion: a regular video blog. I thought the ones you made while leaving Canada were insane and would like to have seen more.

You have a very interesting way of portraying your life and I think others would agree.

Welcome from a native Texan! I grew up in Santa Fe and lived off the loop for about a year while I worked at the Galleria and went to UH.

I now very happily live in Gresham.

I must say you're more likely to have a white Thanksgiving than a white Christmas. We've even had snow on my birthday (the "true" Christmas - Jan 6) and even on St. Patty's Day.

yea, i heard all that stuff too before i moved here -- and fell for it just as hard as you did. you're screwed if you dont live/work on the straight line that MAX is ...... the suburbs and inner residential areas are SORELY underserved. These supposed 'cool' people that you remark of are just as closed-minded and judgemental as the texans you're getting away from. sure, they may be close minded liberals, (i would define myself as a 'liberal') but once you have to constantly being assaulted by their crazy ideas (and then fund them with your property taxes), you'll be thinking differently. the people of portland love portland because they like being 'big fish in a little pond' and are too scared to actually move away and try the other great cities in america. as for the 'not homophobic' thing, think again - i am a gay man living in a state that voted down gay marriage by a wide margin. sure, they have domestic partnership laws, but they dont start for another year , and the conservatives in this state (there are TONS) have sworn to get it on the ballot, which they will. as for the economy ........ i'll let you find that out on your own. it is so up and down it could change 10 times before you get here -- my point is portland, and oregon for that matter, is not that nirvana that people say it is. i moved here from the midwest and have been struggling with the whole reality vs. reputation since i have been here. so, good luck! bring your bike and your raincoat.........
