Reformatting my drive

My laptop is showing the signs that I should get rid of it. The battery can’t hold the charge, the hard disc can’t hold my data and Windows just plain sucks. Not much of a blog post but it’s something, eh?

Anyone know of a 3 or 4 bedroom apartment that I could crash in?

Friday, August 25th, 2006

Does anyone have a 3 or 4 bedroom apartment that I could use? Basically, it will have to meet the following requirements:

  • The rent and damage deposit cannot exceed Canadian$800 per person.
  • Internet Access
  • Access to Public Transportation
  • Doesn’t leak

If you have something, comment here or e-mail me at kyle@thecoldwood.com . Thank you for your help

Working hard on many things

Friday, August 25th, 2006

My main project right now is getting theanime.net up (yes, that is my main project) but to help pay the bills, I have taken on other projects including building the ladder system for theugn.com and my standard work on paintballphotography.com . Fortunately, Bean has decided to help me with theanime.net so hopefully, maintaining it won’t be as much of a hassle so I can get Rexanni’s other properties up (including a little something special that should open up around December ^_~).

Just got my letter of acceptance from Alberta Bible College

Thursday, August 24th, 2006

I just got my letter of acceptance from Alberta Bible College and this means that there is only one thing left to ensure that I can re-enter the border when the time comes and that is the financial paperwork from my Aunt Lori. The good news is that I have gotten everything but the visa temporarily held off until we can get this account into my name. The bad news is that the visa is $125 Canadian. So if you need a web developer that won’t charge much, feel free to e-mail me.

Those bastards at 1&1 did it again!

Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006

Just when you think you are in the clear, guess what happens? Those bastards at 1&1 get at you again. Fortunately, I am in the right this time because I was not given the opportunity to object to the renewal before it happened. I have written letters to the Attorney General of Pennsylvania and the Federal Trade Commission of the United States and I suggest that you do the same.

Would you kindly buy an ad on my site?

Friday, August 18th, 2006

I’ve started selling advertisements on my site with AdBrite and I have noticed something - running the stock AdBrite ads doesn’t get you a damn penny. (OKAY, I will admit that some advertising formats work well with some sites and some… don’t.) Therefore, I’ve disabled the automatic placement of ads on my site and I have chosen to edit my advertisers manually. That being said, if you would like to consider advertising on my site, please note that I am listed on the AdBrite marketplace.

Basically, my site may not have much content on it yet - but it will. And in addition, since AdBrite has prorated my current blog with it’s current content at being worth $88.21 per 30-day text ad, you might want to get yours now before the price goes up (but if it goes up too much, I’ll lower it to a more reasonable price.)

Show what you are playing on Google Talk

Thursday, August 17th, 2006

Google Talk now has the ability to track popular music trends and to display your “Now Playing” as your Google Talk status. I figure why not? I already broadcast what I am playing through last.fm so I don’t see what would be the big deal with sending this data to Google as well. (more…)

FOAD Thursday: Dial-up Internet

Thursday, August 17th, 2006

Yesterday I had to experience the fucking slowness that is dial-up. Dial-up is the worst kind of Internet connection you can have and you should only use it if your high-speed Internet connection is down and you are waiting for the people at the Cable Company to respond, if you are stealing your neighbours Internet connection and you are waiting for THEM to realise that their Internet is out and call the Cable Company or if you are waiting for the Cable Company to come and install your Internet.

Now, whose fault is it that my Internet is down? The blame has to go to Charter Communications, one of the worst Internet Service Providers in the world. If you do business with them, you might want to stop because you are getting a very inferior Internet Connection (see http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/Internet_service_providers_that_do_not_like_file_sharing for a list of inferior ISPs).

If you ABSOLUTELY must use Dial-Up, follow the following golden rules:

1. Turn off images and JavaScript in your browser
2. Ditch webmail and use a POP3 e-mail client if possible
3. Forget about online gaming and torrenting. Until you get an acceptable Internet Connection - don’t torrent - it’s better that way.
4. Have a very limited amount of applications open at one time.
5. Turn off additional features of applications like AudioScrobbler or other plugins and extensions that appear on runtime.
6. Cancel your dial-up account IMMEDIATELY after you get high speed.

I apologise sincerely to everyone in my Ragnarok Online guild for not being online. I hope you killed some good MVPs ^_^
