How to deal with trolls

As you saw from my last post, there was a little troll on my site spamming her link and lying like her life depended on it. Basically, when someone spams your blog with baseless accusations, racial slurs or insults, that generally is considered trolling. Trolling is wrong on so many levels but if you handle trolls improperly, it could rub off badly on you. Here’s how to deal with trolls on your blog:

Take the higher road and try to treat them with more respect than they treat you with. Basically, when someone trolls your site, they are looking for attention and sadly, Skye decided this was the only way to get the attention she so desperately craved.
Consider the troll’s situation. Basically, the troll in my situation lived in a desolate farm area. Maybe she is quite illiterate because her father and mother did not know how to read? Her about page stated that she needed help (from two of her friends) before she could get the basic grasp of Angelfire. Considering the wealth of books and information already out there about the subject, why couldn’t she just look it up? Illiteracy? It also says she was a loner if you read her about page.
Warn the troll that if they do not stop, they could get banned from your site. IF trying to relate to them and treating them with respect does not work, consider removing them from your site. If they are a frequent commenter and make a lot of good comments, consider giving them a warning first before removal. This will hopefully tell them that they are going too far.
Block them. If they do not want to stop attacking you, block them. Skye has not yet been blocked but she has been warned. Basically, I fear that maybe she is misunderstood.
Make a set of anti-troll rules. Basically, make people realise what is okay and what is not okay. Skye appearantly did not know that it is not okay to insult people on the net. Probably because her father did not raise her right but make sure to implement some rules of courtesy and ensure that they are visible to commenters (a place such as under the comment box works well).

Remember to offer forgiveness to your trolls. You have to take the higher road at all times.

ANY publicity is good publicity

Yeah, you know the old saying, any publicity is good publicity, right? Well, I would like you to read the following conversation:

(20:05:34) skyefairyxxxx: Bush iz da bestest pwesident. I luv hem and I wunt 2 vote 4 him again.
(20:05:14) kylekorleski: No, I don’t think that should happen.
(20:05:34) skyefairyxxxx: U shutt up. Hee iz de bestest pwesident evur.
(20:05:14) kylekorleski: Uh, sure. Right, whatever.
(20:05:34) skyefairyxxxx: R u calleng me a ritarrd, u poo-poo had?
(20:05:14) kylekorleski: Nah. But you should consider apologising to me for calling me names.
(20:05:23) kylekorleski: I was just stating facts, you resorted to name calling.
(20:05:34) skyefairyxxxx: I will blox u and tell ev1 I kno not 2 go 2 ur sit agin.
(20:05:47) kylekorleski: Okay, have a nice day.

Do I oppose of her creating a site? No. I think the mentally challeneged should start going out there and creating their own websites. But here’s the thing: if you don’t want people going to someone’s site, simply don’t mention it. Any publicity for a website is good publicity. Basically, I will not promote her site for her by giving out the URL here. I would like to allow people to go to sites written coherently. That is my 2 cents.

A little bit of sunshine in the rain.

Basically, yesterday was a fun day and a lot had happened.

Okay, first things first, had to hit the finance department and get my textbooks. Basically, I need a large number of those textbooks and not having them kind of put me at a disadvantage. So now I am scrambling to get a lot of my coursework done.

Okay, waiting until after class and then, I had to take Miranda out to lunch. Firstly, I need to pay her back for when she took me out for pizza. And second, I really want to spend as much time as I can with Miranda (she’s a pretty/smart/intelligent/fun/nice/wonderful/classy girl, the one that I could imagine myself spending the rest of my life with).

We wound up having lunch at a resturant at the University of Calgary Student Union. Unfortunately, there’s one little problem with that - my credit card doesn’t work at the student union -_-. Guess I owe Miranda another lunch. ^_^;; I went to A&W and she went to this chinese food place and we just sat, ate and chatted. Then we just walked around the student union until we could not find a free space to sit and surf the net. We went somewhere else (can’t remember where exactly) but then, because Miranda needed to actually get her book report done, I decided to head home.

About this time, the weather kept changing it’s mind on whether or not we needed rain or just an overall cloudy day. And of course, the day gets topped by getting lost in Calgary. I seemed to be stuck in the Northeastern Quadrant of Calgary. Okay, the location I seemed to keep coming back to was an area on 78th street. I had the feeling that as long as I kept taking buses, I would EVENTUALLY hit a LRT station. Well, guess what? I was wrong.

Okay, so now, I have given up and started to wait at the 78th street terminal. The bus seems to be taking forever so I decided to go up to the time board and look at the times for the buses. When I look at the times, I see that one is to come really soon. Wait a second, one should have already came… several times over. This is starting to freak me out…

Fortunately, later on in the day, I found my way back home. ^_^

The Zeta Project - Found a torrent ^_^

I found a torrent for the Zeta Project, one of my favourite animations a few years ago that, unfortunately, was cancelled. I searched everywhere to find DVDs and torrents for this series but I have not been successful in that, until today. I know that this blog pings google every time I post, plus several other search engines so I want every blog that talks about animation, every blog that talks about cancelled series to link to this post. I will be seeding this torrent non-stop for the next few months on both my Mac Pro and my HP laptop. I will probably stop at share ratio 1000:1. I would encourage everyone that is interested in this series to link to this blog and download this torrent. Let’s keep it pumping!

And as for you, Warner Brothers - I would like to let you know that the reason why I am encouraging this is because you have not yet released a DVD of even series one. Nor have you released the Zeta Project on the iTunes TV Shows store. For shame! I will be e-mailing this blog post to many WB execs hoping that they get the message and release this wonderful show on DVD (and if you could throw Maybe It’s Me into production again, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.)

Basically, things are getting a lot harder with Miranda. She wants her privacy and space and I can understand that. I love her truly and deeply and I am afraid that she won’t allow me to have the opportunity to get to know her a bit better.

I love her and with every passing moment, I will love her more and more. I have never felt this way and I will hope that we will end up being a couple sooner or later.

9rules is about to open submissions again

9rules is a great blogging network and they will be opening submissions on the 25th of next month. You’d bet your ass that I will be in the next submission round. I will be finishing up the design and I will be working on an anime-related design and integrating the 9rules logo into it. There are quite a few creative implementations of this logo and it’s placement. I am working on something like you will find at Red Monkey, Phil Renaud, ElliotSwan.com or Leihu.
