Today was another snow day (yes, I will upload the pics to Flickr tonight or tomorrow) and everything went well today. I got an e-mail back from an employer asking for my Curriculum Vitae and I found a place. What more could I ask for?
Oh yeah, an interview. I need a job ASAP. I mean, I only have $4,000 or so in hard assets. Sure, I’ve already paid off my college but what of actually living and surviving in this country? And plus, how about my immigration details? I need a job to immigrate to this country so I can become a permanent resident and drop my fear of being deported from this country. Continue reading ‘Another snow day and a little more reflection’
Trust me, there are plenty of reasons why I would see Mr. Fab’s post and buy a last minute round trip ticket to Vegas on Air Canada. But there is one predominant reason why I could not go. I do not have my Permanent Resident card yet. You know, that little piece of plastic that allows people to travel in and out of Canada freely.
Don’t get me wrong, there is a LOT of travelling that I would love to do but not having a PR card to ensure my safe and non-hindered re-entry into Canada kinda scares me. But I sure as hell do not intend to stay in the city for Stampede. Maybe I might take a little trip to Vancouver or Lumby or Halifax. I dunno.
Today and tomorrow, the college is giving me and my fellow students a reading break. Basically, I have a LOT of reading to catch up on but there are a few things I am going to accomplish over these few days.
First and foremost, I am going to be reading my OT lit and other text books (as well as some other books that need reading and my manga on the backburner). I have a lot of reading to do. But hopefully, that can get done really soon because I have a lot of other things to do. Continue reading ‘On Reading Break’
Yes that’s right - starting the 1st of November, I will be working toward writing a 50,000 word novel in a contest. Like all my other writings, I am going to make it available through the Creative Commons once it is completed. But until that day comes and the contest is over, take one line of my story and I will get all up in your grille.
What am I going to write? I don’t know yet but I have a few ideas swirling in my head. I am certain that I can write a novel within the expanse of a month. Hell, if O.J. Simpson can be proven innocent for murder, I can write a novel. I have been meaning to do so for a few years now and here is my chance. Continue reading ‘NaNoWriMo Contest’
Okay, it is rant time. I FUCKING hate background music on web pages. I hated it when I started out on the web. I hated it when I joined the Open Directory Project. And I surely hate it now. As such, when I browse website design galleries such as Screenspire and cssThesis - I run into sites with background music. Now, usually, I am watching a DVD or something that I just bittorrented so I hate background music for that reason and much more. When I listen to music on iTunes - I do NOT want to hear something other than what I want to listen.
It appears I won’t be trying out Mac OS X Leopard today after all. The .dmg file that I got did not boot. *sigh* Why can’t Apple just be like Linux companies and give us .iso files instead? They burn exactly the way they should nearly 100% of the time so there should be no problem with those.
I have two midterms today. The first one is for OT Lit and I really need to study my material. Fortunately, I have SOME notes that will help me get the titles of all the books of the Bible.
And I have my English course tomorrow. Unfortunately, I didn’t get enough of my stuff finished. I fear that the mid-terms are today and I hate English so very much.
I have to head over to Words and Pictures to submit a letter about getting a brand new job. I think I have a chance at a new job offer (web design). Unfortunately, APIS doesn’t look like it will be good for any lucrative employment. But that’s just as well, I guess I could get some kind of employment discount at that store. I spend a LOT of money at Words and Pictures anyways.
However, after school, I am going to be installing Apple Macintosh OS X 10.5. I have to head out to the U of C Student Union Micro Centre and pick of a pack of burnable DVDs.
Okay, this is going to be a quick diversion post and I will post something a LOT better when I get up tomorrow morning. I just submitted my blog to the 9rules network. Good luck to everyone who submits!
Effective the 3rd of November, I should be living near the Chinook C-Train station. Not too far away from a mall, just in the event that I need to do some shopping. ^_~
Also, I am moving out of this ASO Lifetime Plan that I have. I am moving into a shiny new account with (mt) MediaTemple. When I am fully moved, you should see the difference. Of course, when I move out - I am not just going to waste this ASO lifetime account. No, I am going to give it to the site Sata Andagi and it’s primary site, ThoughtDump.net. It took me a lot of thought when deciding who I should give this to but in the end, the choice was obvious. After all, he is still on the crappy 1and1 web hosting service so I couldn’t just let him stay on their services. That would make me cold. Well, colder.
I assure you that there will be NO downtime on the site while moving. True that the name servers will take a little while to propagate correctly so inserting comments into posts within the small window might not work so well. Well, I am rigging up a little solution that will help me converge those little orphan comments during the name server change so no comment is left behind.
For those of you that are very tech-savvy - it’s going to be a WordPress plugin and I am going to issue it for free. I think a lot of people could find a use for it, especially those of us who move hosts/domains a lot.
I am also doing a lot of maintenance work on the site, including the new design. I have it nearly done and I am waiting until tomorrow or so to know what logos I have to include in my layout. I am going to see about getting MediaTemple sponsourship. But I assure you of this - you are going to LOVE the new thekyle.ca, or at least hate it less then you already do.
Tomorrow, a post will be made to the 9rules blog which will initiate the opening of 9rules submissions to the public. This is truly a rush to try to get in and I have told some of my friends (including Mr. Fab) about 9rules. Wouldn’t it be so cool if we both became 9ers?
There is still a chance that I probably won’t become a 9rules member this time around due to the absenses in blogging or the quality of my most recent posts. That doesn’t matter because I will try again next submission round if I don’t get in. And I will try to improve my writing skills and the like. But that doesn’t matter now because I can’t do much more than hope and pray that I become a fellow 9er. If I do, that’s wonderful and if I don’t, well, there’s always the next time. All that matters is that I do my best and work hard to achieve my goal.
So, let’s lift our glasses to 9rules, the best bloggers community ever! Good luck to all the applicants!
