Microsoft is heading up the creek
With Vista’s release, some have to wonder if Microsoft is really going to survive the uphill battle it is fighting. Microsoft has already decided to paddle down shit creek and bring it’s own doom. It has repeated the same mistakes that you have seen in previous versions of Windows, plus added several more mistakes so people can point and laugh at the corporate giant that just loves to cut itself.
First and foremost, the many versions of Windows to upgrade to. Just look at this image and see how many versions of Vista there are. And no, I am not kidding, that really is how many versions of Vista there are. Hell, even the Joy of Tech makes the same statement in it’s funny and yet, oh so true, comic strip.
Second, security practises which are just overbearing to say the least. In the latest Get a Mac advertisement from Apple, you can see an example of what Microsoft’s little Security Centre does to your system. This can get to be pretty fucking annoying, even to the point of throwing your computer out of a twelve story building. If you want to improve performance, than get rid of IE god damnit! And while you are at it, trash ActiveX too. ActiveX was a failed project and it’s time to move on.
Microsoft does, however, have an unfair advantage in many ways and these include gaming and the productivity suite (read: office apps) industry. Hell, everyone refers to a presentation as a “PowerPoint”. This is a BAD sign. So, what is Microsoft going to do? There are many things they can do and one of the biggest things is to spin the truth completely out of context and make shit up. They have done a lot of things in the past which really should be prohibited by the anti-trust laws that the US and other countries have. I mean, they already pay game developers massive amounts of money to develop with DirectX. This is wrong and it should be stopped.
Microsoft should stop being such a prick and just start making it’s most evil inventions (major emphasis on DirectX here) open source so that Linux and Mac fanboys can have a lot more choice when deciding what games they want to play. And Microsoft should dump it’s browser technology in favor of Firefox or something built upon the Gecko engine. This would increase security and help developers immensely, considering thtey can code regarding standards.
