A reminder of the death of the Dell
When I was browsing blogs today, I came across an article that reminded me about the time that the Dell finally died. The hard drives were going bad, the additional 512MB I purchased for it wasn’t helping and booting into Debian well hell. And finally, once I was sure that I could no longer use the damn thing in a practical manner (not even as a file server peeps!) I took out a sledgehammer from the garage and said goodbye to that piece of shit forever (Dell Inspiron 1100. 2003 - 2005).
Finally, after I was through with that, I had to begin saving up for a new computer. And this time around, I had to think… what’s a good computer brand? There was no way that I’d buy an Alienware because they were then owned by Dell (and still are). Gateway isn’t an option as they bought out eMachines and we all know 3 out of every 5 eMachines computers are duds. So my only viable options were Voodoo, Hewlett-Packard and Sony (I’ll get to why I didn’t mention Mac in a second).
I was forced to keep in touch with my contacts via a cellular phone and instant messaging and unfortunately, it is hell trying to keep in touch when all you have is a cellphone IM client. And I really don’t believe I ever caught the hang of typing on a cellphone because I still made a lot of grammatical errors and was reduced to chat speak.
In January of this year, a deacon of the local church by the name of Kenny Amend lent me his Dell Latitude while I was working towards saving up the funds to get my new computer but fortunately, he bought me a brand new HP Pavilion zd8000 the very next month and here we are. Now, it is still kind of weird, seeing as the battery life on this thing still sucks and all that but at least it’s a great gaming laptop. Just not the kind of laptop you would want to take with you to the airport.
Since Windows is even slowing this thing down to a grinding hault, I have lost my faith in the Windows platform and I assure you that my next computer will be a Macintosh. I guess I can now say that I am more willing to join the Cult of Mac. For those of you still encumbered with a Dell, we salute you.

Hi Kyle … I’m curious why you’d join the cult of Mac rather than just keeping with the Linux systems. I dunno how the debian desktop is, but my Fedora Core 5 install is the biz. There’s really very little that I need Windows for … I still dual-boot for games, and for the odd graphics program, but I find Linux meets my needs otherwise. Curious why you’d go for a Mac

Simple, because I require the power to be mobile and as such, I need a mac.
