The Dynamics of Blocking People
At an online dating site, I found what I thought was a great woman that had relatively the same interests as me. The truth was, she was a complete bitch and I am glad that I found that out before getting emotionally attached to her. The sad thing was, she blocked me from Instant Messenger without notifying me beforehand. I used a block checker to verify this and I was right. When I confronted her via e-mail, she was a complete bitch.
When you block someone, it can greatly insult them and put them off from ever helping you again. Ever. There are a couple of reasons why you should think before blocking people on Instant Messenger.
- Networking - Networking really helps you if you are having a problem with finding a job in your industry.
- Support - You can receive a lot more emotional support if you have a lot more friends than enemies.
So think before you blindly block someone on IM, you never know when you’ll need that person’s help.

I agree with your post, blocking someone can be quite insulting. I think that people usually do it because they are afraid to confront the person to tell them how they really feel. Maybe dating didn’t work, but she could have kept you in her network if she had just been honest.
