Software Review: SDP Downloader 2.3.0
While I strongly dislike booting into Windows via Boot Camp or using Parallels by virtue of being a Mac purist, I have found a great software programme while I was a Windows fanboy and I want to share that with you now. It is called SDP Downloader and it allows you to download content from a MMS stream. For the uninitiated, a MMS stream is a content streaming format commonly used by Windows Media Player and was developed by Microsoft. The SDP Multimedia website is dedicated to deciphering the mystery behind MMS and allowing developers easier access to information about the protocol.
But here’s a scenario where you would use SDP Downloader. You find a movie that you SO want to watch, but there is one big problem: it uses MMS. Anyone that has EVER used MMS links knows for a fact that Windows Media absolutely sucks at buffering and even then, the video pauses and lags and this just sucks. Now, you can watch the video, in it’s entirety and you don’t need to wait for buffering or any other shit like that.
Okay, so now that we have the movie that we want to download, right click the link and let’s copy the URL. While this is VERY useful for mms: links and does wonders for http: links, we are going to use it here because we have a mms: link that is bugging the hell out of us.
And now, we launch SDP Downloader.
We click Open and paste the location of the file.
After that, we click Go and choose where to save the file. We also have the option to rename it as we wish.
Now, let’s let SDP do it’s magic.
And now, time to reap the spoils. I have uploaded the resulting video at SpyMac Leapfrog so go check it out. ^_^
