How to deal with a car in your spot
I just thought of a great type of post to write for my blog - an effective list of things to do to cars in your spot. Remember, however, to keep it legal. Your best bet in all instances is just to have the car that is parked there towed. You don’t have to pay anything to have it towed (the person who is getting the tow generally picks up the tab for a tow). Plus, they generally should not be parking in your spot in the first place. Here is what you would do first - remember to first consult a local towing company because they might know something that you might not about the legality of what you are thinking of doing.
Generally, you have to give notice of a problem before you can tow someone’s car. And usually, just posting a small leaflet on their car won’t do it as it is too easy to mistake it for an advertisement. Instead, it’s a good practice to take some Krazy glue and place on on or near the handle of the car. And make sure that you let them know that next time, your car will be towed. If possible, settle on a towing company and get their name and number. This should be put on the notice. Make sure to take down the make, model and licence plate number of the violator. After that - you should be able to take care of this by phoning your choice of towing company.
This may not work, however, with parking garages. For this instance, you may want to contact building security and make sure they are alerted that someone is parking in your space without your permission. Whatever you do, however, make sure you act within the laws of the land. This is ultimately important because throwing a brick in their window will get to be more and more of a pain as they get a basis to sue you. Of course, you could have the police or parking authorities place a clamp on the car to make it so the car cannot be moved.
