Taking an important step back
I have talked with Becca today and after much thought - we have mutually decided to take a very important step back and become just boyfriend/girlfriend. This does not mean that we no longer have the potential to become engaged again, but I doubt it’d happen anytime soon. In fact, I’d probably wait like a year or two before considering it again. But let’s look at the pros and cons of this - because it has both. But I can promise you this - I will NEVER post another thread on Yay Hooray again!
The cause - I posted a thread at Yay Hooray! about the engagement and I did not know that everyone there is an asshole. Funny how the things you don’t know can hurt the ones you love. Essentially, they found her blog and her myspace and started spamming friend requests. I am not happy about this and I am very disappointed in the Yay Hooray community for taking such a deviant action against me.
The pros - She told me her feelings outright. She did not just block me or write me out of her life. In fact, she was willing to work with me to find a way we could still be together. This shows a lot of maturity and I am very happy that there are people that are not just abusers. I feel that she may very well be the one, but I’d like to be certain. Plus, we would have a lot of cute stories to tell our friends. This is a decision that took me a while to come to but at least I can still be with her.
The cons - We are no longer engaged and this makes everything I’ve said about the engagement lack credibility. But I assure you, everything I’ve said about the engagement is 100% true. But I guess it really doesn’t matter since it’s a matter that concerns just me and Becca. That and I can not post another engagement announcement on this blog. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted!

That’s the way of the world, I’m afraid, especially in public forums on the internet.
I think you’ve learned the lesson — to your cost — that announcing anything about yourself online is likely to get opinions either side of the fence and that some people will abuse the various systems around to tease, even bully people.
I’m sure you’re well aware now that personal blogging can put you in uncomfortable situations and you should probably be a little more careful announcing certain things — especially if you have more than JUST friends and family watching your exploits…
I get thousands of people every day come through to my site to view my technical articles. I don’t know 99.99% of them at all so I’d never even dream of giving them any detail about myself that could be twisted… To represent that, it’s only been a few months since I started using my real name and a photo of me on there… After 9 years of running the site in some guise.
Good luck with it all and I hope this debacle doesn’t have a lasting effect on you or your missus.
