Today, the iPhone went on sale, but I’m not in line to get one. And I’m not going to be for quite some time. It’s not just because of the money, but it’s also because of the three very important reasons. The first is it just isn’t worth it to spend the money on an iPhone. The second reason is that it’s the first generation model and I’m going to hold out until the iPhone starts getting into it’s third generation model. The third is it’s exclusivity with the evil telephone monopoly known as AT&T. I explain my reasons in more detail below. Continue reading ‘Three reasons why I won’t be buying an iPhone’

Macrabbit just recently released CSSEdit 2.5 to the general public. Now, CSSEdit is one of my favourite power toys (tomorrow, I’ll discuss power toys for the Mac) for the Mac and it gives me the power to do so much with my current style sheets. It has a beautiful way to validate style sheets with W3C standards. And of course, it still has the smexy features it always had such as Milestones, Live Preview and Xray. And this has not been replicated in applications like Panic’s Coda (which costs a US$69 if you own a Transmit licence). Also, Macrabbit added a beautiful new welcome page for CSSEdit 2.5 (compared to the one that Macrabbit made for CSSEdit 2.0).
Why I use .mac
Yes, that is right - I use Apple’s series of tools available to Mac users for US$100 a year. There are a great number of reasons behind this and I am willing to explain them all in great detail. They range from secure instant messaging, superior back up services, synchronization between other Macintosh computers and IMAP-based e-mail account. I use those services mainly but there are other services which I use just because I can and I have found good uses for them. Continue reading ‘Why I use .mac’
A girl that I very well may be dating soon stated “r u apple obsesing again????”. I playfully agreed and then she said “wow…..it must b on ur brain like 24/7 i bet u dream about it”. I became worried that she may have misunderstood so I denied it and needless to say, she wasn’t entirely convinced. So I feel I should state that I am not truly Apple obsessed, I am just an Apple evangelist. So I have decided to write a little blurb about Apple evangelism and how it differs from obsession. Continue reading ‘I am not obsessed, I am an Apple evangelist!’
On The Apple Blog, they raise the question whether or not Macs are for business and with the advent of cool modifications to the Macintosh like Apple Boot Camp or Parallels Desktop for Mac allowing you to run Windows. But this also leads to more execs seeing the awesome power of Macs in their native form, not just with Windows. And this is good because I would say that to get a mac to use it exclusively for Windows is a sin against your Mac. Continue reading ‘Macs - for business, pleasure or both?’
Okay, if you have travelled around the blogosphere yesterday, you could have seen a number of posts about the iPhone that is about to come out from Apple. Various rants include the iPhone has no keypad, it has a touchscreen, . And others express their unwavering desire to own one. And those at the Keynote dwell on the fact that the iPhone stole the show. I sympathize with the developers of the ModBook though, after all, we just recieved the ultimate cellphone. And if the developers of the ModBook can’t honestly say that they would wait hours in line to make sure they had the first one in their area, we know they are lying. We have Blackberry addicts joining the fray and Apple’s stock climbing.
Let’s face the facts. Apple is changing the game and we all just hit the jackpot. Or so you’d think. You see, we ALL haven’t won nor will we all win equally. You see, the iPhone is coming out, in the United States, in June 2007. And for those of us wanting to flee the states, have already fled the states or are currently in limbo based on visa options - we have to wait until Q4 2007 for an European iPhone and until 2008 for an iPhone in Asia. And where does Canada lie in all this? Certainly, Canada is NOT the United States but then again, is Canada European or (dare I say it) Asian? Or is there no ETA for the iPhone in Canada? It would make sense after all, most carriers here in Canada (Telus, Rogers, Fido, Bell, etc) are proprietary and do not respect the customer where they can purchase their phone and switch carriers freely. The Apple iPhone is something I would truly want. There are numerous reasons for this but the main one being that Apple is a great computer company. I am quite satisfied with my iPod 80GB video and I believe that the iPhone will be a great device. Plus, Apple is one of the few monopolies that I will accept (other than Google).
I am certain that the iPhone will integrate well with Apple’s iCal, Address Books, iTunes and many other applications and I hope that Apple will make a miniature version of it’s mail programme that will allow us to manage our text messages and keep archives of our text messages on the computer. It would also be nice to include features like sending a text message from your computer via Mail if you have the phone connected to the computer.
Humm, one can only hope. I will be watching reports from the Macworld conference to see if I will be calling on a cool little iPhone next year.
I just restored my computer and got back from that meeting with Mr. Pringle/Frasier. The good news is that I am not being expelled and deported. But what is happening is a lot worse. I am being sent to a psychological exam, and that is about as bad. And it appears that not even God, with all his power, can save me from this fate.
In a few days, I plan to wipe my MacBook Pro clean and reinstall OS X Tiger. Why? Well, Leopard is fucking with a lot of my applications. Two in particular would be Adium and CrossOver for Mac, but there are other applications that are a few quirks that prohibit them from running in a regular fashion. Applications such as Mail, Azureus, Firefox, Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, Transmit and Quicksilver.
So, what is the problem that I am facing with just wiping the MacBook and reinstalling Tiger? Well, I still need to find my MacBook’s support disc because my ADC Tiger Disk won’t run on the MacBook Pro. That’s a real bummer because I really want to play on Nyxsis RO.
It appears I won’t be trying out Mac OS X Leopard today after all. The .dmg file that I got did not boot. *sigh* Why can’t Apple just be like Linux companies and give us .iso files instead? They burn exactly the way they should nearly 100% of the time so there should be no problem with those.
